Tools / Weight Manager

Weight Manager

Every per-point map on a selection, in one list. Copy them, edit them, and move them between meshes that do not share a topology.

What it does

One list, every map

Skin cluster influences and DQ blend weights, every weighted deformer, blend shape targets and base weights, nCloth and nRigid per-vertex maps, nConstraint maps, and any other array attribute that matches the point count. Maya scatters these across half a dozen editors. Here they are in one place.

Transfer by closest point

Match by point index when the meshes agree, or by closest point when they do not. That moves a map between a proxy and a final mesh, between resolutions, and between different characters — the afternoon job that becomes a minute.

Paste with intent

Replace, add, subtract, multiply, min or max, with a blend amount. Restrict any operation to the points you have selected in Maya. Skin normalisation is maintained on paste, so nothing needs cleaning up afterwards.

Edit in place

Flood, invert, clamp, multiply, smooth and remap, on any map in the list. Or launch Maya's own paint tool on a map and carry on as usual.

Take maps with you

Export maps to a file, with a compact format for rigs carrying hundreds of deformers. Import them onto another character, with a dialog for pairing up names that do not match.

Fast, and one undo step

A hundred-thousand-point map moves in milliseconds, and every change is a single undo step.

Honest about what it is not

This is a map manager and transfer tool, not a layer-based painting system. If what you want is to build skin weights in stacked layers, a dedicated painting tool is the better buy. What this does is see every per-point map a mesh carries, move maps around, and get weights from one place to another.
